Retention Curve
CreativeGrowthAnalytics
A retention curve is a graph showing what percentage of an audience is still watching (for video) or still active (for users) at each point over time.
This term does double duty across creative and growth analytics. For video, YouTube Studio's audience retention graph shows exactly where viewers drop off second-by-second — sharp cliffs point to specific editing or pacing problems. For product/growth, a user retention curve plots what share of a signup cohort is still active on Day 1, Day 7, Day 30, and so on — and the shape of that curve (does it flatten into a stable "smile" or keep declining toward zero) tells you more about product health than any single retention percentage.
