Revenue
Gross Revenue / Net RevenueBusiness
Revenue is the total amount of money a business brings in from sales, before any costs are subtracted.
Gross revenue is the full sale price before deductions. Net revenue subtracts things like refunds, discounts, returns, and sometimes payment processing fees. Ecommerce businesses in particular need to watch the gap between the two — a business with a high return rate can have gross revenue that looks strong while net revenue tells a much less flattering story.
Revenue is a top-line number and says nothing about profitability on its own — see gross margin for the next layer down.
