Keyword Cannibalization

SEO

Keyword cannibalization happens when two or more pages on the same site compete for the same keyword, splitting ranking signals and confusing search engines about which page to rank.

The usual symptom is two pages both ranking weakly (say, positions 15 and 22) for the same query, when a single consolidated page might rank in the top 5 with the combined signals. The fix is almost always consolidation — merge the weaker page's unique content into the stronger one and 301 redirect it — rather than trying to differentiate two pages that are, in Google's eyes, answering the same question.
