Keyword Difficulty
KDKeyword difficulty is a tool-generated score (usually 0–100) estimating how hard it would be to rank on page one for a given keyword.
KD scores are typically modeled from the backlink profiles of currently-ranking pages, and different tools calculate it differently, so a keyword's KD score on Ahrefs and its score on SEMrush can differ noticeably. KD also can't see everything that actually determines rankability — how outdated the current top-10 content is, whether the SERP is dominated by huge brands versus beatable smaller sites, and how well a new page could genuinely serve the query all matter and none of them show up in a KD number.
Manually reviewing the actual page-one results for a keyword is a better difficulty check than trusting any single KD score in isolation.
