Performance Max
PMaxPerformance Max is a Google Ads campaign type that automatically serves ads across Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, Maps, and Discover from a single campaign.
PMax trades granular control for automated cross-network optimization — you supply assets (images, video, headlines, audience signals) and a conversion goal, and Google's algorithm decides placement, creative combination, and bidding. This makes PMax powerful but frustratingly opaque for diagnosing exactly which channel or placement is driving results, a widely repeated complaint in PPC communities.
PMax generally performs best with a mature conversion tracking setup (including value-based bidding data) and a healthy amount of historical conversion volume to learn from — it tends to underperform when launched cold on a brand-new account with thin conversion history.
